Weekend Getaway

Mark's 31st birthday is coming up this weekend, but I decided we needed to celebrate a little early this year with a weekend getaway.  This was the first time that Mark and I have been gone without Kaylie for an entire day.  (Is it bad to say that it was really nice??)  I love Kaylie to death, but it was nice to spend some time with just the hubby.  Mark's family volunteered to watch Kaylie so I could take him out to hit some Memorial Day sales (and get a few b-day presents) at the Prime Outlet stores just an hour away.

Mark has been talking about these slim-fit/non-iron shirts from Brooks Brothers that I guess EVERYONE in the business world raves about.  They are usually about $200 for 3 shirts, which was way to expensive for me to justify for a b-day present.  BUT, there is a Brooks Brothers outlet store at the Prime Outlets, and with Memorial Day discounts, we got the same shirts for only $35.  SWEET!  We stayed at a hotel right across the street from the Prime Outlets on Friday night, and then went shopping for almost the entire day on Saturday.  (I had no idea that we would last that long, but there were some killer deals.)  Let's just say that this birthday getaway for Mark turned into birthday gifts for Mark and me, Father's Day and Mother's day gifts, and maybe a little bit of Christmas.  :) We went a little crazy, but we had a lot of fun.

Outside our hotel

I discovered that Tommy Hilfiger outlet is my new favorite store.  Who knew??

All our bags.  Yikes!  What did we do??  I laughed the whole way home, trying to remember what the heck we bought.  :)

We heard about Tony's Restaurant on Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives (show on Food Network).  And so we HAD to stop by to try this...

...BLT with ONE POUND of bacon.  We decided to share it.  And it was delicious!

Gotta love the shirts!

Playing in the Sprinklers

Too much fun!  We hung out with Lucy and her Mom, Amy, a few times last week, and I think this is our new favorite summer activity.  Kaylie and Lucy were so cute, and loved running around in the sprinklers.  I love these two little girls!  It is so nice to see Kaylie playing so well with someone other than family.  Love it!  (And don't you love Kaylie's swimsuit?  Children's Place for $10...sweet!)

Time for Nursery

Kaylie went to nursery for the first time on Sunday!  And she actually did pretty good!  I have been worried that Kaylie going to nursery would mean that I would have to go to nursery too (since she still clings to me when she is around people she doesn't know very well).  But I think she might be okay, and mainly for one reason...her friend Lucy is in nursery too.  Lucy is the ONLY little kid that she will actually play with and have fun with.  Kaylie never cries when Lucy is around, and I think Lucy is the reason why Kaylie did so well on Sunday.  (Thanks Lucy!!)  I stayed with Kaylie during all of nursery this Sunday, just to be there for her for the first time.  But if she plays as well next week as she did this week, I might try leaving her on her own for a bit.  I am so excited!

Kaylie folding her arms for prayer.  She just learned how to do this last week.  So cute!

Her Favorite Things...

There are some things that Kaylie has loved for a while now: books, singing, playing in the tub, running around outside, swings, etc.  But here are some of her newest favorite things:

1 - Stuffed Animals
Kaylie loves to stack all her stuffed animals on her rocking chair, and climb on top with them.  She also loves to have me put them all in the crib with her when she wakes up.

2 - Eating for a long time
Recently, she has been staying at the table for about 30 - 45 minutes eating/playing with every meal.  Breakfast is the longest.  The other day she sat there eating for almost an hour!
Current Favorite Breakfast: Waffles, banana
Current Favorite Lunch: Mac & Cheese with hotdogs, apple pieces
Current Favorite Dinner: Chicken & Rice or any kind of pasta, green beans

3 - Brushing her teeth
Sometimes with more than one toothbrush... :)

Mark's Good News

Mark received some great news today... he was officially hired as an intern at the Taubman Company this summer in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Wahoo! I am so excited and happy for him. The job just seems so perfect for him, and the projects he will get to work on sound awesome. One is the City Creek Center project in Salt Lake, another is a mall here in MI that is re-doing some retail space, and the third is a new development in Puerto Rico. So he not only gets to work on a good mix of projects, but he gets to use his Spanish too. And the nice thing is that he will mainly work out of the Bloomfield Hills office, so we will get to stay in Ann Arbor together this summer. (I was prepared for the fact that Mark might get an internship in another state, which could have possibly meant that we would have to move somewhere for a few months, or be in different states for the summer. So I am very happy with this news!) This opportunity is such a blessing the way that it has all worked out, and I am very grateful. CONGRATULATIONS honey!
